Residential Caretaker for Small Woodland Campground

Position Desription

Residential Camp Caretaker & Project Director for Small Seasonal Woodland Campground at Camp Earth Connection

Located adjacent to the Hammond Hill State Forest, in Dryden, NY 

(12 miles east of Ithaca, NY)

Responsibilities:

Position is 15-20 hours per week (time frame between May 1 – October 31), with some weekend and evening work  

Grounds & Facilities Maintenance

Maintenance garden, play fields, forest

Take leadership in Permaculture Projects such as – gardening, water management, natural building projects

Small repairs such as painting and minor construction

General maintenance of equipment. 

Record keeping of maintenance and equipment as required.

Water chlorination daily testing and maintenance.

Assist w/campground operations: Occasionally attending to guests needs and/or occasional check-in and check-out of guests 

Assist in supervision of volunteers or apprentices

Maintain Compost, Recycling and Garbage system.

Shared cooking responsibilities (Vegan/Vegetarian) for camp community.

Desired Qualifications:

Permaculture Design Certification (helpful but not required)

The facilities are alcohol and drug free. Candidates must be willing to adhere to this requirement.

Experience interacting effectively and respectfully with diverse audiences

Ability to work well with others

Understanding and valuing diversity and inclusion

Understanding of and commitment to living in an environmentally conscious way.

At least 21 years of age

Experience in as many of these areas as possible: Supervision, Permaculture, General Carpentry; Equipment maintenance and operation (mowers, tractors, weed eaters, etc.); General labor (i.e. painting, cleaning, yard work, compost toilet management); Gardening; Cleaning

Positive Customer Relations experience.

Ability to maintain a neat and organized work and living space.

Agreement to be alcohol and drug free while living and working on the premises.

Compensations and Benefits 

Time Period: May – October

Compensation include:  Rustic (non-electric) Screened Cabin; Shared Meals 5-days per week; Fee Waived for Apprenticeship Program; Access to WiFi and all campground facilities.    

Adjacent to Hammond Hill State Forest with access to 20 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, etc.       

Potential for Winter Caretaker Position – November – April (Reduced Rent in full amenity cottage for approximately 5-10 hours/weekly.)
